The Center for Biblical Guidance

a ministry of Faith Bible Church

We know there are times when we just need a helping hand. While some may feel totally overwhelmed by their circumstances, others are doing very well in some parts of their life while struggling in others. Whatever your situation, now might be the time when you need someone to come alongside you with encouragement and help from the Bible.

We are people with different kinds of problems, but the most common are struggles related to marriage, parenting, sexual sin, and emotions (e.g. depression, anger, fear, or anxiety). In all cases, the Bible is sufficient to answer the problems of life.

While there may be many helpful resources out there, we believe that the Bible is the source of truth for living. We believe God has created us and knows what is best for us, and has communicated that truth through His Word, the Bible. We believe Hebrews 4:12 when it says, “The Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Whatever your situation, God has provided hope and help in His Word. It is true that our difficulties may not disappear. However, when a person willingly submits to God’s instructions and clings to His promises, there is encouragement and hope. There are answers for dealing with whatever you are facing. In fact, many of our counselees see significant progress in just a few months.

What should you expect from us?

All our counselors, whether they are pastors or lay-people, go through rigorous biblical counseling training. Our counselors will care for you and treat you with respect. They will listen to your situation, help you understand your issues from a biblical point of view, and walk patiently with you as you make progress in living your life according to God’s Word. We will encourage you in your successes and exhort you to think and behave in ways that please Jesus Christ.   PRIVACY: Everything will be held in strict confidence except where, in the counselor’s judgment, there is biblical or legal requirement to involve others (e.g. abuse, criminal activity).   OBSERVERS: We are a church that is committed to training more counselors. We desire to train individuals through teaching, individual study, and observation of actual counseling. Therefore, in some of our counseling sessions, there will be the counselor and an observer who is there to learn and grow in his or her understanding of counseling principles and methodology.

What do we expect from you?

HONESTY: It is very difficult to help you if you are not honest with us.

HOMEWORK: Required weekly assignments will allow you to practice what is learned in sessions and will encourage lasting change.   CHURCH ATTENDANCE: We request that you make every effort during the counseling process to make this a priority. It is to your benefit to hear truth from God’s Word that will complement what you hear in counseling. We will require you to attend Faith Bible Church in-person, and attend a mid-week community group, for the duration of your counseling time.   PATIENCE: Habits are not developed overnight and new habits will take time to become the new norm. In most cases, we ask individuals commit to regular counseling appointments for a period of 8-10 weeks.
